![]() Valentine's Locker Decoration ![]() Every year for Valentine's Day, we try to put up really special locker decorations for the basketball team and our cheerleaders. This year, I made the locker decorations and everybody was really happy with how the locker decorations turned out. We decided to cut out strips of paper the length of the locker. This always looks very nice. First we measure the lockers and made sure to include a gap for the handle and combination to stick out. Then we cut out paper to the right size in the color we wanted to use. We cut construction paper into the size of printer-paper so that we could print on it. We printed all the players numbers on the construction paper. (Construction paper is thicker and glues on better) We used a cute Valentine's font (which we downloaded off the internet) and typed "Let's Go (name)!" We printed this out on construction paper too. We used a different valentine's font to print the player's name and number. We made sure to print this in the middle of the paper so we cut out a heart. We used a heart pattern to trace on each piece of of paper. We cut out the numbers with a small border of red left. Before we glued anything down, we laid everything out to see how it would look. Also, make sure you lay out the way you want your sponge-painting to look. We found sponges that said I "heart" you, and kisses, and X's and O's. We bought craft paint in red, pink, and lavender. The sponge painting is the easiest part to make a mistake on. You should do this first, before glueing anything else on. If you mess up, you don't want everything else to be permanantly glued down. You should dilute your paint so that it isn't too thick. You can add a little water. Also, test the sponge before to see if it looks the way you want it to. We used candy heart stamps to fill in. We had purple and red ink pads. We found metallic heart confetti at Wal Mart, and we glue these down all over the locker decoration. We wanted to put a picture of each of our guys playing basketball on the decoration. We had been taking pictures during the year, and printed one out for each boy. We tried to find a good picture of the guys in action. These magenetic picture frames were very cheap to make. (We made them magnetic so that the guys could take them off their locker and keep them after Valentine's Day) We used jumbo crafts sticks, wooden craft hearts, magnetic tape, and spray paint. We made sure that our frame was the right size for the picture before we glued it. When you spray paint, you should be outside because the fumes are bad. This is messy, so we put our frame in a cardboard box to spray it. It kept the spray paint mist from blowing all over. The reason we painted the frame red was so we wouldn't need to put as many red hearts on it. It also looks a lot nicer. We spray painted the hearts and stars gold and red. We stacked smaller hearts/stars onto the bigger ones to make a layered effect. Then we set them on our frame to see how they looked before glueing them down. Once it dried, we put magnetic strips on the back of the frame. If you put a lot of wooden hearts on the front, you will need to use more magnet strips, so that they'll be strong enough to stick to the locker. Also, make sure you put the strips on the two sides of sticks that stick up more. For our cheerleaders we used red paper. All of the girls on our squad like Hello Kitty, so when we saw these Valentine's cards we bought them. These were very cheap but very cute. We cut the cards out and they went better with the decoration. We decided to make magnetic frames for the cheerleaders. If the girl had a boyfriend, we tried to get a picture of them together. We glued glitter onto some of the hearts. We thought that pink construction paper looked very nice for the hearts. We like to put the year on our locker decorations, because some of the girls like to keep their locker decorations. We used metallic heart confetti again. We glued the heart shapes together again to make magnets. We also used stars. We tried to put about 15 of the stars/hearts on each girl's locker.
